Educational Notes: Gypsum forms several crystals, one of which you would commonly hear of is Selenite. Selenite forms in a sheet-like structure and can be clear to translucent. It does not lend itself well to carving. Satin Spar, however, with its fibrous structure, lends itself incredibly well to carving and is what the majority of Selenite in the world of crystals is labelled as.
Why? well that primarily comes down to common term searchability as this is what the majority of people search for, not realising the difference between the two. The takeaway from this is that it is the same mineral with a different structure, with some of the same to many similar metaphysical properties.
